100 - Les Flutes Indiennes-Vol. 3 (Lp) - Los Calchakis

Post No 100 ! I simply can't believe. I mean... there are many more gr8t records I wish to share here... seems like I will need to take it easy, or skip sleep altogether!
Really... I got addicted to blogging in no time...

To mark this day, I selected a very very special record.

Les Flutes Indiennes-Vol. 3  by Los Calchakis is the first album I have in memory.
I was no more than 5 years old when I became a total fan of Musica Andina!
No kidding, dudes...
This record was among the few vinyls my mum ever possessed,
vague left over from her marriage, for she had no interest in music herself.(!)
I got very impressed by these soundz from scratch, and it lasted so far!
When I unexpectedly dug this record a few days ago,
I got very excited to recognize the cover I knew from early childhood.
And listening to it gave me quite a chill, hey!

1974 - LES FLUTES INDIENNES VOL.3
Fantastic!
Must Grab.

99 - A Song - Pablo Moses

First heard Pablo Moses singing in 1998... one of my friends was kinda seriously hooked on this sounds.
I quite didn't like His voice at first, but something special kept on calling me to play
His tunes.
Today, A Song  is one of those reggae blasters that will always chill me...
and of course, I LOVE that voice!

95 - Equal Rights - Peter Tosh

UPDATE: I received my 1st complain from the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copiright Act) creeps targeting this wonderful record some weeks ago.
I found pretty accurate that they choose P. Tosh & the title Equal Rights to actually infringe on my rights to freedom.

AS WE SHALL RECALL, HON. WINSTON HUBERT McINTOSH DIED
ASSASSINATED BY CIA PAID GUNMEN IN HIS HOUSE ON SEPTEMBRE 11, 1987

Review from Amazon.............................................................................................................by Elena Oumano
Each of the dreadlocked prophets who made up reggae's "holy trinity"--Bob MarleyBunny Livingston, and Peter Tosh--sang for "equal rights and justice." But Tosh, the trio's take-no-prisoners militant, came on the hardest. His voice held the threat of danger, turning sufferahs' dreams and Rastafarian complaints into urgent demands. All the tracks in this remastered 1976 set--Tosh's first for an American major and his first collaboration with drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare (who went on to become reggae's legendary "riddim twins")--instantly became anthems, not just in reggae, but within the international pop lexicon. Some vintage roots reggae may strike contemporary listeners as peace and love cliché, even naive. Not Tosh. Against the background of today's turbulent social climate, Legalize It still sends chills up the spine with the sheer spectacle of a great reggae warrior's refusal to bow. --

93 - Windhorse Riders - David Hykes & Djamchid Chemirani

Listening to Windhorse Riders by overtone Master David Hykes &
zarb virtuoso Djamchid Chemirani , is a truly unique and remarkably efficient relaxing tool.
Unlike the sumptuous sounds of the 7 members acapella choir featured on
Hearing The Solar Winds , this record brings in musical elements
through a few instruments
and the major presence of the zarb,
by the topmost performer of the Persian drum.

92 - Zion Roots - Abyssinia Infinite feat. Ejigayehu 'Gigi' Shibabaw

Zion Roots , second release by Bill Laswell & wife Ejigayehu 'Gigi' Shibabaw ...
offering a smoother and more trad. sound than on Gigi.
Gone are the many famous names that made the previous album a killer...
Alive is the tribal feel and rootsy ambient that makes this record a superb follow up!

91 - Gigi - Ejigayehu 'Gigi' Shibabaw

Oooh Yess! This record's a winner. Wherever I play it, I will get somebody come up and ask "who's that girl singing?"
She is Gigi , from Ethiopia...Uno Bill Laswell's wife! Winner I tell U.
Thus, a gr8t set of musicians (including Herbie HancockWayne ShorterPharoah Sanders and others) and brother Bill as pilot.... like a dream come true!
Wonder how this comes No.91...thought of posting Gigi from the start!

90 - Love Part 1 - Build An Ark

The best things always come in pairs.
This statement surely applies in the case of today's post.
Following in the euphoria of Dawn, comes Love Part 1 ,
the 3rd release by king-size Californian project, Build An Ark.
A Lossless Exclusivity In Times Like These...!!!

Gosh, this is one of the best records I've ever heard!

89 - Dawn - Build An Ark

Happy Solstice and New Year!...May Ur Best Wishes Manifest Themselves.
For instance, my dream since I started posting In Times Like These...!!! was to get hold of a lossless copy of any Build An Ark record and bring it to Blogland's most enthusiastic diggaz attention.
Why? Simply cos it's not there on the freeweb yet...no-where...no torrent...NOTHING!
How could this be? Dawn is one of the best records I've ever heard
and I am really not making this up.
So to make a short story even shorter, I finally threw some money in
a web-music-shop...downloaded those 100% legal Flac files...and... here they are!

Review Excerpt ............................................................................................................................by Thom Jurek
"The only thing better than hearing this record would be seeing these folks lay it down on a stage -- they've drawn raves from critics and crowds alike whenever they play. The collective known as Build an Ark re-create an impressively varied body of work, one that restores the soul, offers the mind a place to settle, and still gets down in the bone and marrow to let the groove energy present itself unfettered. Dawn gets a solid vote for one of the best recordings of 2007 for its sheer musicality and accessibility (all without engaging clichés of any kind) as well as its fearlessness in trying to come up with something truly new in the world of jazz. Finally, we have a new vision of jazz that has been liberated -- without anger or bitterness of any kind -- from the formal institutions that would make it a museum piece. It takes pride in its origins, and its history, because it was the first American music to embrace all world music. Build an Ark's Dawn is truly the first moment of a brand new day.
Very highly recommended."

For those who follow, the collective Build An Ark features our favored Dwight Trible
on vocals, and relates therefore to Kindred Spirits Ensemble.
Absolute Essentials!
It strikes me now that since my first post, there was only 5-6 records that I couldn't dig in lossless from the freeweb...and both these major bands are among them!
I had to go buy the Flacs for the glorious Love Is Supreme from a webstore too,
and posted 'em as a World Premiere!
AND U CAN BE HAPPY U FOUND IT NOW!

88 - Acabou Chorare - Novos Baianos

Generally acclaimed as one of the Best MPB records ever printed.
Soo, dug it too...et voila!
Novos Baianos revolutionized the way music was conceived in Brazil, blending psychedelic rock & fusion elements with traditional folk compositions.
Their second release, Acabou Chorare is a must to everyone who loves
smiles & sunshine in their music!

87 - Caetano Veloso - Caetano Veloso

Self titled album by Brazilian champion Caetano Veloso recorded in 1968 is well among my favorites in the Brazilian context and Tropicalia in particular...
although it's Transa album is forever un-dethronable.
(and I am waiting in earnest for the time I will grab a lossless copy... soon...stick around!)
Really some wicked tunes in here... Alegria, Alegria, for instance...
I hear the Velvet Underground in Latin garb...quite psychedelic for that alone!

86 - Samarpan - The Joy Of Surrender - Kishori Amonkar

Sometimes, U hear a voice so evocative... it brings U to all sorts of places.
That's what happens with Kishori Amonkar , I get really far.
I had "Dancing With The Divine (Meera Bhajan)", the 2nd track of Samarpan on my hard-disk for several years and it stands as my favorite in the genre.
So I dug the record and here it is, for our utmost pleasure.

2002 - SAMARPAN

85 - Rain Melody - Amar Nath

In line with previous posts...and to avoid leaving the impression that there is only one name to remember in the world of Bansuri players, I am glad to bring here Amar Nath to Ur attention and amazement.
Started early, developed steadily...arrived safely...at the pinnacle of excellent Hindustani performers.
So, it may be seemingly just the same as H.Chaurasia, trust me...it's not! This dude has got His very own style...and phrasing. Sooo sweeet.
On Rain Melody , He is accompanied by Somnath Mukhergee on tabla
and by Sukhamar Chandra on swarmandal.

1995 - RAIN MELODY

84 - Flute Duet - Hariprasad & Rakesh Chaurasia

Amazing stuff! U get 2 Chaurasias in 1 !  ...on Flute Duet , straight classical Hindustani night concert recorded in Stuttgart
featuring our beloved Hariprasad accompanied by His prolific nephew, Rakesh Chaurasia...
Oh! and Zakir is on the tabla...I mean...terrific!
