115 - 800 - Mercan Dede

.
Full Moon Posting...
As it should be, the last album to date by my favorite Turkish Sufi Wizard Mercan Dede .
800 celebrates the birth of Rumi 800 years ago.
Since I couldn't find Dede's 1st record; 'Journeys Of A Dervish' in lossless yet
and the 2004 release; 'Sufi Traveler' is a compilation of
both 'Nar' & 'Sayahatname' albums already posted In Times Like These...!!!
U've got all what's available Here!

105 - Nefes (Breath) - Mercan Dede

Gently moving towards the completion of
Mercan Dede discography In Times Like These...!!!

On "Breath" ("Nefes" in Turkish), the third release in the four part series that began with "Nar" ("Fire") and continued with "Su" ("Water"), Mercan Dede infuses his listeners with the refreshing quality of air. Although "Nefes" incorporates elements that can be traced to Mercan Dede´s previous two releases, the boundary breaking musical experimentation captured on the album results in a sound all its own. Melancholic and cheerful, on this album Mercan Dede carries out an organic fusion that captures the magic of the East, mystical elements, electronic tones, and traditional instrumentation.

 ... one more time, awesome.

58 - Su (Water) - Mercan Dede

Continuing with the Sufi electronica series... Su  is just as good as the rest of
Excellent music guarantied from start to finish.

Review

by Rick Anderson
"Su" is the Turkish word for "water," and water is the theme that unifies all of the tracks on this strange and deeply beautiful album. Featuring musical elements and guest musicians from India, Iran, the Balkans, Mediterranean Europe and Britain, as well as Mercan Dede's native Turkey, Su draws on Sufi mysticism for its symbolism and on just about everything else in the world for its melodies and beats. That's not to say that the sound is cluttered or frenetic, though -- there is a deep calm to this music, a consistent beauty that sometimes gives way to eeriness even as jaunty didgeridoos and jazzy breakbeats float in and out of the mix. "Ab-I Nâfi" offers some of the album's funkiest moments, with its thrumming string bass, dubwise production effects and rap interlude (courtesy of Turkish rapper Ceza). "Ab-I Zen" is similarly rhythmically compelling, though in a more laid-back, trip-hoppy way. On the more contemplative side are the beautiful "Ab-I Beka" (which features the wonderful Indian singer Susheela Raman) and "Ab-I Çesm," which is based on a traditional melody from the Kerkuk region of Iraq. This is an album that amply rewards repeated listening.

47 - Seyahatname - Mercan Dede

Yet another superb record to take U on a mystical journey in the
Turkish Sufi realms.
Mercan Dede's 3rd release,  Seyahatname is possibly his most obscure effort.
Very moody and pregnant with the emotions of spiritual separation
from the Beloved.

39 - Sufi Dreams - Mercan Dede

Another Turkish delight for U today.
Mercan Dede brings that mystical vibe that makes Ur soul wants to dance...free.
Sufi Dreams is the first studio recording of Dede... and a very accomplished one.
Each track will take U deeper into a moody journey through one awesome Dreamland.
I simply love each and every album he's produced so far...more to come soon.
Inch Allah!

29 - Nar (Fire) - Mercan Dede & Secret Tribe

For years I had a single track of Mercan Dede, Sunrise Zikr.

I don't know how it came to be there anyway.
When I started digging blogs for music, about 2 years back, I promptly searched for more from this mysterious Dede. And I found...
and I ended-up dumbfounded. Dudes, this guy is da 'mad sufi'...
I start with the album Nar  which is the first I also discovered, and will be posting the rest soon or later.
